Stumbling blocks

The motif of the special postage stamp shows a graphic representation of a stumbling block. The special feature of the stamp design is evident in the typographic design, which is based on the craftsmanship of real stumbling blocks, where each letter is hammered into a brass plate by hand.

The typography features subtle nuances in stroke thickness and varying spacing between letters. Furthermore, not all letters in the larger capital letters are exactly aligned with the baseline, as is the case with machine-set text. This fine alignment of the typography, combined with a gold colour application and embossing, gives the viewer the impression of a real, slightly raised stumbling stone.

The design uses the special colour ‘Pantone 871 C’ (gold). The typography is set in the font ‘Gravur LL’.
