Underwater – Fauna and flora
The design of the special postage stamp “Unterwasser – Fauna und Flora” (Underwater – Fauna and flora) uses reproduced, hand-coloured lithographs to visualise the beauty and diversity of flora and fauna in the native waters of Central Europe. The diversity of these organisms is not only reflected in their shapes and colours, but also in their different adaptations to specific habitats such as seas, lakes and rivers. In addition to the brown algae species sugar kelp, the stamp design shows the European lobster, the root-mouth jellyfish, the river perch, the common starfish and the small marsh snail, while the typography, set in Replica Light, blends in with the overall picture of the underwater world.
