Robert Blum
The design of the special postage stamp “Robert Blum” uses the quote: “I die for German freedom, for which I fought; may the Fatherland remember me.” These last words are attributed to Robert Blum.
The stamp edge of the souvenir sheet issue shows the overturned inscription “Upright Democrats” and a portrait of Robert Blum, which was taken by Hermann Biow in 1848 and is used here as a lithograph by Valentin Schertle. There is also a detail of Blum’s last letter to his wife Louise Eugenie, which he wrote shortly before his execution on 9 November 1848. The letter ends with the words: “Come on! Farewell! Farewell! [sic]”.
The design is set in Univers LT font and printed in two colours: black (Pantone Process Black C) and red (Pantone 485 C).
